I am So Ashamed

It is SHAMEFUL that I have not blogged in over a year. Especially since I consider myself to be a marketing GENIUS...heeheehee.

Actually, I guess the good news is, Deek & Long has been so busy that I really have not had time to blog. This summer we worked every weekend, sometimes 2 and 3 shows a weekend...poor Andy, I really keep him hopping. In fact, we worked so hard I came down with a serious case of brochitis/pneumonia in October that lasted through the end of November. It was horrible. BUT something terrific came from that. I will explain in the latter part of this post.

Changes? Yes, we've had a few. I have learned some new songs that I absolutely love that have totally stretched me beyond my comfort zone. "Ooooh, La La" by Grace Potter", "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga, and "Legend of a Cowgirl" by Imani Coppola...GREAT SONGS and super fun. Our shows are morphing into...oh I don't know, silliness and mayhem is the best way to describe it. Kazoos, Vibra-slap and climbing on tables...need I say more? Our new Bass player, Dave Sale is another welcome addition to the band. He and his lovely wife recently moved to the IE (Temecula wine country) and we quickly snatched him up, adopted him, (or kidnapped him) and made him drink really good wine. Poor guy, he'll never be the same. Love you Jen & Dave Sale. Heeheehee (Pasta Sundays! YAY!)

So, back to the bronchitis story...so I was REALLY sick, right? I had completely lost my voice on October 15th, and coughing up a lung. It was misery. It was our premier gig at JJ Landers, so I did not want to cancel and miss the opportunity to play there again. It was a quandry. Andy called Keith and said "hey man, what are we gonna do?" and Keith suggested we call Laurie Richardson to sing in my place. Both Dave and Keith had played with Laurie, and knew her material, and of course, Andy can play anything...so that is exactly what happened. I remained on the couch in a mini-coma, and the boys played with Laurie. Andy immediately fell in love with her and from that fateful night a new band was birthed. Andy came home at 1:30am and woke me up to announce that we are now involved in a Fleetwood Mac Tribute project. I was so excited I fell back onto my pillow and resumed my coma-status.

In 4 short weeks the Tribute Band came to life. 3 rehearsals and 16 songs. No kidding, its a done deal. Tomorrow is our photoshoot, and this week we are going to try and shoot some video. It truly is an amazing project, we love Laurie to bits...itty bitty bits! She is an amazing musician and just an overall lovely person.

Problems? We have a few. One of them is...we have a little TOO much fun. We're all a bunch of wine-o's, plus the music, endless bagging and hilarity keeps us laughing until the wee hours. Of course our livers remind us the next day that we are no longer in our 20's...so who knows how long we can keep this up.

Anyway, check out our new website for Little Lies Band, we're pretty proud. I think its gonna be huge. Click HERE

OK, that is my blog post for the year! Heeheehee!

Loves to all, keep on rockin' with Deek & Long!

Yes, the wedding has come and gone, but our love grows ever stronger. Sickening isn't it? You can view photos at http://www.gallery.me.com/bestillimages There you will see two files appropriately named "Rockstar" and "Rockstar2", these are our wedding photos. Click on a file and you will see a security window. Type in the file name again as the user name and the password is "lisa". USE ALL LOWER CASE LETTERING. Have fun!

Now we are definitely back to business. I am super proud to announce that The Deek and Long project has expanded to a full 5 - piece band. The sound is amazing, we're getting our groove on and our first public show is going to be HUGE at Vail Lake Resort of August 28. We are super-mega excited about it! The Deek & Long Band features Keith Boyer on Drums, Chris Rhine on Bass, and Randy Liss on Keyboards. This is a full-on rock show folks...be prepared to wear extra socks!

There is more and more and more news on the near horizon, but we are letting each cat out of the bag slowly. Stay tuned and thanks to our fans for getting the word out.

Loves to all!

So, What's in the Cards for D & L?

For those of you who follow us, you will notice that our website has gotten a much-needed face-lift. Thanks to photographer Brenda Portillo of Be Still Images, the excellent promo shot you see at the top of each page has become the icon for Deek & Long's future. We are prepared to rock and rock harder in 2010.

Andy and I will soon be Mr. & Mrs. Long, and then it is back to work. You will notice our schedule has slowed down some, but that was for the sake of the wedding. Once we have crosed that bridge we have many plans in the works...so hold on to your bootstraps.

Originals: Yep, we are venturing into the realm of, "if you're so talented, why don't you write your own stuff". Recently we joined TVMA, (Temecula Valley Musicians Alliance) hosted by The Mark Sage Band, and look forward to playing some of our home-grown tunes at Anthony's on Tuesday nights. So far, as most of you know, we have 2 originals that we play at most of our gigs (Orange Sky and Supposed To Be) but we have a few more we have been tinkering with and will soon be ready for the stage.

New Instruments: As some of you know, I has been blowing harp on a few songs and you can look forward to more of that in the near future...BUT, (start holding your breath), I may even pick up the ax and strum out a few tunes as well. This has been (and will continue to be) a huge undertaking for me, but I am looking forward to more rehearsal time after the wedding. Andy is very patient while he teaches me the basics, then I have to sit and work on it over and over until I get the hang of it. In other words, I am NOT a natural. BUT I am diligent and very excited about playing an even more active role in our show.

New Venues: We have two new venues on the books for 2010 and we are really excited about playing for bigger audiences. In April we will be at The Canyon Lake Country Club and in the summer we look forward to rockin on Mount Palomar Winery's stage facing their GINORMOUS patio. We are always scoping out new possibilities, so keep an eye on our calendar...

New Tunes: Andy and I have been discussing it, and we really want to give our set list a make-over as well. We have TONS of cool tunes under our belt already, but we are ready to sink our teeth into some tasty new sounds. Be patient with us, I think we are gonna spend some time on these new projects,so when we do get back into the full swing of gigging every weekend we will be hotter than ever!

Loves to all! You guys rock!

Goodbye 2009, Transition into 2010...Happy New Year!

You have to admit, 2009 was an amazing year for Deek & Long. We took a few promotional photos in January, worked up two sets of music and had our first gig on January 31...it just snowballed from there. The Corner Pocket, The Wine Company, Tom's Bistro Jams, Ayres Hotel & Spa, Tesoro, Hamilton Oaks Winery, Ruby Tuesday, Mt. Palomar Winery and The Gambling Cowboy all became regular venues, we love and appreciate everyone who gave us a shot and those who continue to book us. We even made two music videos in June, which turned out very nicely, super professional thanks to our very good and talented friend, The Donman. It's just an amazing time for us both, it's hard to put into words all the amazing experiences this year has brought us.

Andy and I are continuing to add songs to our set list, sometimes taking requests from fans, learning new music...and yes, even a few originals (Lord help me). We love our fans and we listen to their ideas, it makes them a part of us...we dig it!!!!

So what's in store for 2010? How about a Deek & Long Wedding? Mark your calendars for April 3rd...that's the date boys and girls! It's really gonna happen, we are very excited! Andy and I bought a house on 4.5 acres of land in Winchester, the property is the perfect place to exchange vows and have a huge party...so let's DO IT! We are also going to expand out into the wineries, hopefully start booking more private parties and we keep toying with the idea of building up to a full band.

Let's get busy! Bring it on in 2010!!!

The Gambling Cowboy

In Old Town Temecula there is a great "Chophouse and Saloon" called The Gambling Cowboy. (formerly Penfold's Cattle Company) It is up on the 3rd floor of the Penfold's Building overlooking the old town strip. This place just has a great feel when you walk in the door, exactly like a saloon straight out of Gunsmoke.

Andy and I have been wanting to play here for months but did not get past their voicemail, so we were very excited when our friend Kristine Turner got our foot in the door. We played there for the first time last Saturday night out on their patio and had a BLAST! It was not a huge crowd, but everyone had a great time. I got so into my tunes I threw my shoes into the audience! hahaha (Andy is never gonna let me live that one down!)

The next day we went in to talk to the owner and have some brunch, they have the BEST steak and eggs! Yum-o! Anyway, long story short, we got to know Renee very well as she told us her amazing story of success. She once worked in news broadcasting and accidentally found a career in her hobby of cooking for others. When a caterer cancelled at the last minute for a company party, she offered to cook...the corporate big-wigs loved it so much the word spread quickly. She eventually quit television to work for herself and open a catering business. Renee has a great story to tell, we were fascinated and really enjoyed getting to know her. We wish for her much success with The Gambling Cowboy, her head bartender Bridget is also a gem. Stop by and see them sometime, and tell them Deek & Long sent you!

We will be playing there again on December 26th and several dates in January...check our calendar!

Getting Ready for the BIG SHOW!

Last night, after dinner (and with the assistance of both my children), Andy proposed to me and put a beautiful diamond ring on my finger. Although we have been talking about it for months, I was still taken off-guard and the only thing I could say was "SHUT-UP!"

What can I say? Life is good.

The four of us have a beautiful and symbiotic family dynamic. I feel so very blessed with all that is happening in my life. I really don't know what else to say, but I wanted to post a blog to remember this day. hmmm, that accidentally rhymed, perhaps it would be a good song lyric!

Not sure when the wedding will be, we are talking about having it in the next few months...perhaps New Years Eve? We'll see. I'll let you know. :) We are planning to fly out to see Andy's mom and dad first, and then we will start making plans. I kind of have dreams of a quiet ceremony but a big party, we both have a lot of family and friends who would want to be involved, so I'm not sure how quaint we can keep it.

Anyway, I am all misty-eyed as I write this. I want to thank all of you for supporting us thus far and for your continued love and support in the years to come. You guys rock. Let's celebrate!!!!!

The Best Summer Ever

Hey all you Deek & Long-ers!

This summer has been rockin' and rollin', and this is the last week before the insanity of school starts. Think I might just head to the beach tomorrow to find my "zen".

All kidding aside, this has been a wildly successful summer. We have played at some new venues, made TONS of new friends and we are still learning new music. Many of our fans have asked us to record a CD, so that is also in the works.

I have spent the good part of my morning posting photos, updating our calendar, thanking venues and answering the phone...so it looks like our fall and winter will be just as exciting. We have a wedding and a few other private events which makes us very happy. Orange County is starting to open its doors to us more and more. There is a possibility (a very good one) that we will be playing at the Pagaent of the Masters next summer...this is a VERY BIG DEAL. Also we have met the owners of Hamilton Oaks Winery in Trabuco Canyon and they asked us to play at their Harvest Celebration next month, and perhaps more events in the future. The good news just keeps rolling in, and we are totally PUMPED. I encourage you to go look at some of the new photos I have posted over the past few months...we love our friends and our fans!

This has been my dream for many years, and Andy's as well. We want to thank everyone who is helping us get our music out there. You guy are the best!

All our love,
Lisa & Andy

What's New with Deek & Long?

I'm so glad you asked! Actually, I apologize for not updating the blog for a few months, but there has been a lot going on. A LOT. In fact, we can't really even keep up with ourselves.

Here are the highlights:

Booking gigs. I have been busy filling up our calendar. Of course Jennifer has been great about getting us in at The Wine Company, we are booked there through October! I also have our foot in the door at Tesoro Winery in Old Town Temecula. Kimberly gave us an audition and simply LOVED us! (but of course!) We are booked there for two Fridays this summer as a trial run, Kimberly has never had music on Fridays so we are kinda the guinea pigs. COOLNESS! Another great venue opened up to us thanks to Andy's long-time friend Michael Paul. We played at Our Place Pub (Lake Forest) in June and the turnout was AMAZING! What a PARTY! Tina was so happy she booked us another Saturday night in July. Our friend Robert Rankin Walker has also been great about asking us to fill in for him at Wahoo's Fish Taco Open Mic Night when he is out of town. This is a fun venue! We played there on July 1st and celebrated my birthday, it was awesome! Kids came out and played with us and jammed some of their originals, we really had a good time. (The cake was good too!) We have another potential on-going venue up in Orange County to play at the Ayres Hotel for their new wine tasting events. I guess you can say that the word is getting out, and we are really excited about our summer calendar! YAY!

Videos. It is really great to have friends, and Andy has a lot of them! A few weeks ago we drove up to the Valley and met up with Reverend Don of "The Donman Band" and filmed our first TWO music videos! WHOA! We totally did not know what to expect, but they came out totally PRO! I have not done any acting or camera work in YEARS (too many to admit comfortably) but I psyched myself up on the drive to San Fernando Valley and had a BLAST once we got there. You can download the videos here on this website, or you can view them on YouTube by searching "Deek & Long". The two vids are "Thank You" a Dido cover, and "Orange Sky", our FIRST original! Which brings me to our next subject...

Originals! Andy has been putting the bug in my ear about originals ever since we got together. This definitely was NOT in my comfort zone. Admittedly, I am a mimic. I sing what I hear. To originate a song (let alone come up with the lyrics or melody) is something I know nothing about. I threw down a few lyrics for Andy awhile back, but was not getting the hang of it at all. One night he sat me down in his music studio and we started messing around with some songs he had written a few years ago. After spoon-feeding me each line (hahaha) we came up with a scratch track for "Orange Sky" and that is what we used for the second music video. This song is now ready for us to try out at gigs...how exciting huh? Our next original (that we are actually working on tonight) is called "Get the Funk Out", it has some really clever lyrics and I think everyone is gonna dig it.

Shacking up/music studio. Well, its official. Andy and I are making the big move and he is now living here at my house. The ultimate plan is to buy a bigger house, a place that is "ours" and we can have a rehearsal space as well as a recording studio/office, but the way the market is right now we are playing that part by ear. Two weekends ago, we brought over his music studio equipment and put it together in my front room. It looks & sounds great and it is much better having Andy here when he practices. The rest of the transition will happen over the next few weeks and in between gigs. Whew. I'm tired already!

So, that's what's been going on. So much to do and so little time. I never in my wildest dreams thought this project would be so successful so quickly...and change so many aspects of my life. We are so happy it is sickening. I didn't even mention that Andy and I have also been working out and I am making plans to go back to school to learn graphic design...things are really jammin around here. I will try to be more dilligent about keeping the blog fresh, so keep visiting the site and checking our calendar for gigs in your area!

Luvs to all,
Lisa and Andy

This Blog Post Has No Title

Andy asked me to update the home page of our site today, but I didn't have the heart to delete what he wrote. So I am saving it here as a blog post. He wrote this soon after we started working together, and I did not read it until months later, I AM SUCH A DORK!

"Thanks for stopping by my website! I’ve been currently practicing and recording new cover and original material with my new musical partner and Soul Mate, Lisa DiClemente. We call ourselves Deek and Long. Lisa is a beautiful girl and mother of 2 great boys with a sexy sultry voice that just oozes with emotion when she sings. Lisa has a long history of theatrical and singing experience that spans over 20 years. When I first heard her sing, I could feel her emotion and believed in her. Our duet is a completely different project than anything I’ve ever done and it is very exciting.

The great thing about our duet is that I actually get to perform on my Taylor acoustic guitar (which is a rare treat) that takes me back to my early days. Many of our songs are performed using drum and backing tracks which I built in my home studio. We are mixing contemporary TOP 40 hits with Classic Rock, New-Wave and Dance Music (old and new). It is really fun stuff and Lisa just has that “IT Factor” that attracts attention."

Thanks honey. You da bomb.

The Wine Company

I love irony. Let me just start off by saying that.

Andy and I wandered into a little wine bar early in our relationship, we ordered a few drinks and sat there for a moment listening to some music and he says, "This is where I want to play. It's 2 miles from my house, its classy, we play for a couple of hours and we go home..." a month later, there we are.

Tomorrow night will be our 3rd gig at The Wine Company and we love it there. The whole thing was kinda bizarre the way it worked out. That's why I mentioned that I love irony. About 8 months ago I had met a musician, Mark Sage, whose band was playing at a winery where I worked. When we started talking to Jennifer at The Wine Company we found out that Mark Sage is her husband. One thing leads to another and we all become very good friends. Serendipity, yes? Anyway, The Wine Company is just a real casual place, the wine is great and it kinda has that "Cheers" vibe. Andy and I go just about every weekend, just to say hi to our friends, try some new wine and decompress from the week...its awesome.

The Wine Company is located in Temecula, next to The Olive Garden on the corner of Overland and Margarita. The owner's name is Dan, he grows some incredible Syrah grapes in his backyard and makes some amazing wine. Jennifer is the manager, she is about one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. The music there is always something a little different, and we are honored to be playing there regularly...keep checking our calendar and come on out to this venue when we are playing...it is TONS of fun!
